As the previous Director of MSD Centre for Obesity, Thyroid, and Diabetes in Bangalore, he has played a pivotal role in advancing diabetes care and endocrine health, helping thousands of patients manage chronic metabolic disorders.
Dr. Shankar’s journey in medicine began with his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, followed by an MD in Medicine from Karnataka Medical College. His passion for endocrinology led him to pursue an MSc in Endocrinology from New South Wales, UK, equipping him with cutting-edge knowledge in the field. He has undergone specialised training, including an Observership in Diabetic Foot at University Hospital Magdeburg, Germany, and training at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, USA, further enhancing his expertise in diabetes management.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shankar has held prestigious positions, including Senior Consultant at Manipal Hospital, Consultant Diabetologist at CMH Hospital, and Head of the Medicine Department at Ministry Teaching Hospital, Libya. His academic contributions include serving as Professor and Head of the Medicine Department at KCDS, Yelahanka, where he mentored aspiring medical professionals.
Beyond his clinical practice, he has made significant contributions to clinical research, having served as a Principal Investigator (PI) in multiple clinical trials on diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic disorders. His research has focused on the efficacy and safety of various diabetes medications, insulin therapies, and nutraceutical interventions. His participation in global and post-marketing trials has played a crucial role in shaping treatment protocols for diabetes and related conditions.
